Griseofulvin is used orally only for dermatophytosis. It is ineffective topically. It is reserved for cases with nail, hair, or large body surface involvement.
Griseofulvin inhibits fungal cells mitosis, disrupts the mitotic spindle structure, and terminates metaphase cell division. It is effective against fungal infection of the skin caused by Epidermidis, Microsporum and Trichophyton, and is ineffective against other fungal infections including Candida and bacteria.
